Organize your product catalog with categories, control visibility with the Listed toggle, and restrict access with company whitelists.

Categories group your products into a two-level hierarchy: root categories and subcategories. Products belong to subcategories. Categories also carry default pricing settings (markup and RRP discount), optional add-ons, and visibility rules that control who sees which parts of your catalog.
Navigate to Products → Categories to view, create, and edit categories. Click the pencil icon on a category to open the Manage Category dialog.
Listed and unlisted categories
Every category has a Listed toggle on the Settings tab of the Manage Category dialog. Listed categories are visible to everyone who is allowed to see that part of the catalog. When you turn Listed off, the category becomes unlisted.
Unlisted categories are a staging tool: you can prepare categories and assign products before making them visible to your wider team or customers.
Who can see unlisted categories?
Only users with product management permission can see unlisted categories. This is not limited to admin users — any user role that includes product management permission can view and work with unlisted categories.
Everyone else — including users with quote management permission alone — does not see unlisted categories in category pickers, the product catalog, or the storefront.
When a root category is unlisted, all of its subcategories are hidden as well, even if those subcategories are individually marked as listed.
How to tell if a category is unlisted
On the Products → Categories page, unlisted root categories show an Unlisted badge. Use the Filter dropdown and choose Unlisted to review all unlisted categories in one view.
Company whitelisting
You can restrict which customer companies see a category by adding companies to the Company Whitelist or company classifications to the Classification Whitelist on the Settings tab. When no whitelist is configured, the category is visible to all companies (subject to the Listed toggle above).

Who bypasses whitelist restrictions?
Users with quote management or product management permission always see all listed categories, regardless of whitelist settings. This lets your sales and product teams browse the full catalog while customers only see categories whitelisted for their company.
Whitelist bypass does not reveal unlisted categories — those remain visible only to users with product management permission.
